Inventor Brenda DW Lanzana has created a healthy sleep improvement device.
With restless leg syndrome and a touch of neuropathy pain in her feet and ankles, Brenda would struggle to fall asleep and stay asleep. The pressure of the blankets caused leg cramps, ankle pain, and added foot pain. Plus, when she tried to keep her feet in an ergonomic position, the pressure on her toes kept her awake, uncomfortable, and in pain. Brenda just knew there had to be a better way. She would change positions frequently while in bed, so she knew she needed something that would not interfere with the mattress surface or normal positioning movements. With these ideas in mind, she was inspired to develop The Shield MD!
The invention was designed to support the weight of blankets over the feet. It simply slides under a mattress and has arms that create a comfort zone near the foot of the bed. The device is adjustable to accommodate mattress thickness and foot length. Once installed, it does not touch the user, no matter their sleeping position. It works to eliminate stress and hyper extension on the foot and ankle. It reduces the potential for calf cramps and improves the health of ankle tendons. While beneficial for the entire population, the invention will be a must-have at hospitals, senior living facilities, and live-in rehab centers.
